Boys’ Basketball, Girls’ Basketball Both Record a Loss

Girls’ Basketball

The Westbrook girls’ basketball team traveled to Portland on Jan. 3 and won 40-25 for the team’s first win of the season. Senior captain Leticia Pires led the way, with 15 points and 21 rebounds. Sophomore Natalie Palumbo contributed five points and 10 rebounds, and freshman Anna Landino contributed nine points. Senior captain Olivia Palumbo added five points, three assists, and three steals.

Then, on Jan. 6, the team traveled to Hale Ray and lost a close, 33-28 game. Palumbo paced the Knights, with 13 points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Landino added nine points, and senior captain Kayla Prisley contributed three assists, five rebounds, and three steals.

On Jan. 11, Westbrook hit the road to Haddam-Killingworth and lost 35-25. Pires had 19 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Adriana Spash contributed with four points, and Palumbo added 11 rebounds and five assists.

Girls’ Ice Hockey

The Hand girls’ ice hockey co-op team hosted Amity/Cheshire/North Haven on Jan. 10 and won 6-2. In the first period, the Tigers scored two goals. Jaimey DiNapoli knocked one in, assisted by Taylor Manchanda, and Faith Minickene scored, on an assist from Kendall Dobratz.

Hand then added three goals in the second period. The first one was knocked in by Manchanda (assisted by DiNapoli and Cheyenne Wilson), and Dobratz (assisted by Raegan Wyrebek-Brasky and Minickene). Minickene scored an unassisted goal to round out the frame. DiNapoli found the net again in the third period, assisted by Minickene and Wilson. Chloe Monahan manned the net for the Tigers, recording 16 saves.

Boys’ Basketball

The Westbrook boys’ basketball team hosted Haddam-Killingworth on Jan. 12 and fell 70-43. Senior Elliot Koplas had 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, and senior Trevor Jones had eight points and four rebounds.
