She has already cemented her place as one of the best pitchers in the Southern Connecticut Conference and in the state of Connecticut, and because of her efforts, colleges took notice. Guilford senior Sophia Meade has decided to continue her softball endeavors at the collegiate level after she graduates this spring.

Meade, who will play her senior season this coming spring, recently announced on her Twitter and Instagram accounts that she has verbally committed to Colby College.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to Colby College to further my academic and athletic career,” stated Meade. “I would like to thank God, my family, my coaches, and my teammates for their support. I also want to thank CT Impact for helping me through this process, my past travel ball coaches, and Coach Allen for this amazing opportunity! #GoMules.”

Meade has been a threat for Guilford since taking over in the circle her sophomore year. She has been the ace for the Grizzlies the past two seasons, finishing her sophomore campaign with a 14-4 record, 115 innings pitched, a 1.52 ERA, and 180 strikeouts. She then finished her junior season with a 13-8 record, 143.1 innings pitched, a 0.977 ERA, and 195 strikeouts.

Additionally, Meade has added many other accomplishments to her resume, including being named to the SCC All-Conference Team in both her sophomore and junior years, Guilford High School Athlete of the Month, Guilford Courier Sports Person of the Week, and Hummel Player of the Game. Sophia was also recently selected as a co-captain of the Guilford softball team for the upcoming season.

Now that she is committed to Colby, Meade will focus her efforts on going out on a high note with the Grizzlies, trying to set new records and aim for an SCC Championship and Class L State Championship. Guilford’s season ended last year with a 4-3 loss to Windsor in 10 2/3 innings in the Class L State Quarterfinals.

Though there is a strong possibility that she could amass 600 career strikeouts this spring, it is very apparent that what Meade values most is doing what she can to help her team win.

Congratulations to Sophia Meade, as she joins the roughly 6% of high school softball players who are fortunate enough to continue onto an NCAA softball career.
