Wrestling Makes a Statement at Four-Team Meet

On Dec. 23, the Guilford wrestling team traveled to Ledyard for a match that also included Foran and New Fairfield. The Grizzlies defeated Foran 39-38. Earning individual wins for Guilford were Andrew Plancon (won by fall at the 2:37 mark in the 113-pound bout), Elijah McDermott in the 144-pound contest (by fall at 1:42), and Owen Pelletier-Stephens by fall in the 150-pound bout at the 1:40 mark.

Garrett Mace competed in the 165-pound contest and won by fall at 5:36, while Colton Deboda took home a victory by fall (3:15) in the 175-pound matchup. Tim Hastings earned a win at 215 pounds by fall (1:12) and Logan Murphy won the 285-pound matchup by a 3-1 decision.

Guilford took a 42-37 loss vs. Ledyard in the match. Dante Bilskis earned a win in the 126-pound bout by a 11-3 major decision, while Alex Uzzo (138 pounds) won the 138-pound bout by a 5-0 decision. Elijah McDermott (144 pounds) won by fall, and Dominic Bilskis (157 pounds) won by fall at 1:34.

Mace at 165 pounds won by fall at the 1:08 mark, and Jean-Paul Meguerditchian won the 190-pound contest by fall at 3:15. Hastings also recorded a victory by fall in the 215-pound matchup.

The Grizzlies hung on to earn a 40-36 win over New Fairfield in the competition. Uzzo (138 pounds) won by a 9-1 major decision. McDermott won at 144 pounds by fall at 1:17, and Pelletier-Stephens (150 pounds) won by fall at the 3:23 mark. Finally, Meguerditchian competed at 190 pounds, defeating his opponent by fall at 2:35, and Murphy (285 pounds) won by fall at 2:23.
