North Haven D10 Competition Cheerleading Wins Nationals
The North Haven Nighthawks D10 Competition Cheerleading team placed first in the nation at the Silver Spurs Arena in Florida on Dec. 10. The team also placed first in their local, state and regional competitions.
Head Coach Jenn Hettrick led the squad to dominance this fall, alongside assistant coaches Lindsay Capozzo and Nicole Fitzgerald. The team, nicknamed the “Diamond Divas,” is comprised of Giuliana Capozzo, Catalina Colon, Molly Corcoran, Madison Cretella, Stella D’Angelo, Violet Danis, Charlotte DeFrancesco, Victoria DeSimone, Ally Fitzgerald, Jess Fitzgerald, Madelyn Gherman, Cora Gilmore, Natalia Grogan, Sadie Hettrick, Jocelyn Kenyon, and Lea Quinones.
“These athletes are committed to winning,” Hettrick said. “They’ve always had one goal, and that’s getting to Florida for Nationals. When they hit the mat they turn it on, perform, and get the job done. Their confidence and charisma when they perform has been unmatched this entire season. These girls have been faced with tragedy, and have banded together as not only teammates, but as sisters would do. They are sassy, strong-minded, and have taught the coaches how to persevere and not sweat the small stuff (so much).”
One of the cheerleaders, Victoria DeSimone, is the daughter of fallen North Haven firefighter, Anthony DeSimone, who passed away on Aug. 24.
The D10 team sends a special thank you to their sponsors, Bernie Wealth Consulting, Sunny Side Up, The Landing North Haven, and Adelphia Cafe. The squad is very grateful for their generous support.
The North Haven Youth Football and Cheerleading programs are extremely proud of the accomplishments of the young cheerleaders. The girls have proven that with hard work, determination, and dedication, you can truly be a champion. Congratulations on a well-deserved national championship!
