MSW Football Players Earn End-of-Season Awards
The season may not have gone as the team would’ve liked for Morgan-Old Saybrook-Westbrook football, but despite the ups and downs and obstacles they faced as a squad, there was still much to be proud of, especially on an individual basis.
After advancing to the Class S State Tournament as the No. 7 seed, the Huskies took on No. 2 Bloomfield in the first round on Nov. 28 and took a 42-0 loss, ending the season with a 6-5 record. Even though the Huskies fell short, each member of the squad learned a great deal about unity and teamwork in the debut season of the three towns coming together to form one cohesive group.
Additionally, several players were recognized among the elite players in the Pequot Conference for their efforts on the gridiron this fall. Wide receiver Jack Nye earned All-Conference honors, and was also named Sassacus Division Player of the Year. Other players on the co-op squad who earned All-Star status within the Sassacus Division included quarterback Trevor Powell, offensive lineman Logan Ryan, linebacker Jacob Jones, defensive back Brandon Hester, and punter Griffin Ranaudo.
Ultimately, this season became one with many lessons learned, as Morgan-Old Saybrook-Westbrook hopes to grow from the experiences on the field this fall, and carry over the momentum into next season’s campaign.
