Field Hockey Fights to the State Semifinals, While Girls’ Soccer Takes a Quarterfinals Loss

Field Hockey

Guilford field hockey began Class M State Tournament play as the No. 2 overall seed. In a first-round matchup on Nov. 7, the Grizzlies hosted No. 15 E.O. Smith and won 5-1.

On Nov. 9, Guilford hosted No. 10 Farmington in the quarterfinals and won 2-1.

Girls’ Soccer

In the Class L State Tournament, Guilford girls’ soccer was the No. 6 seed. After receiving a bye in the first round of play, the Grizzlies hosted No. 11 Avon in the second round on Nov. 8 and won 2-0.

On Nov. 10, Guilford played a quarterfinal round matchup vs. No. 3 Brookfield and took a 4-1 loss.

Boys’ Soccer

The Guilford boys’ soccer team opened play in the Class L State Tournament as the No. 23 seed. In the first round on Nov. 7, the Grizzlies traveled to No. 10 Daniel Hand and fell 1-0. Jameson Benben and Anthony Malatesta each recorded two saves in net.

Girls’ Volleyball

As the No. 8 seed in the Class L State Tournament, the Guilford girls’ volleyball team hosted No. 25 Bethel in the first round on Nov. 7 and won 3-0.

Two days later, Guilford hosted No. 9 Bristol Central in the second round and took a 3-0 defeat to close out the season.
