Field Hockey Dominates Into Semifinals, Boys’ Soccer Takes Second Round Loss
Field Hockey
After producing a dominant season that led to the Hand field hockey team winning its first SCC Championship title since 2017, the Tigers landed the No. 1 overall seed in the Class M State Tournament. In the first round on Nov. 7, Hand hosted No. 16 Joel Barlow and defeated the visitors 4-0. Goal scorers for the Tigers in the game were Jacqueline Kennedy (2), Kelly Kilbourn, and Maggie Lavin. Jordan Kells, Katie Flanagan, and Bridget Waters all had assists in the game. Goalie Faith Minickene had two saves in net.
In the quarterfinal round on Nov. 9, Hand played host to No. 9 Branford and won 2-0. The Tigers goals were scored by Kells (assisted by Morgan Mastrobattisto) and Flanagan (assisted by Kells).
Boys’ Soccer
Hand boys’ soccer opened state tournament play as the No. 10 seed in Class L. In the first round on Nov. 7, the Tigers played host to No. 23 Guilford and won 1-0. Hand’s goal was scored by Danny McSweeney, and Billy Shaw recorded four saves in goal.
On Nov. 9, Hand played a second-round matchup at No. 7 Cheshire, where they fought to the finish and took a 1-0 defeat.
Girls’ Soccer
Hand girls’ soccer began the Class M State Tournament as the No. 14 seed. In the first round on Nov. 6, the Tigers hosted No. 19 HMTCA and won in dominant fashion, 9-0.
On Nov. 8, Hand traveled to No. 3 Granby Memorial for a second-round matchup and fell 2-1.
Girls’ Volleyball
Hand girls’ volleyball began Class M State Tournament play as the No. 20 seed. On Nov. 6 in the first round, the Tigers traveled to No. 13 Griswold and fell 3-2.
