Hand Football Gets Win Against Branford; Girls’ Volleyball Notches Two Victories
Football
Football hosted Branford on Oct. 27 and won 40-0. Aidan Dolan scored two touchdowns for the Tigers (13-yard run and 1-yard run). Sam Markovitz also contributed with two touchdowns (23-yard pass and 7-yard pass). Owen Preskar also caught a 7-yard touchdown pass. Quarterback Jack Shay threw three touchdown passes.
Boys’ Soccer
The Hand boys’ soccer team traveled to Wilbur Cross on Oct. 23 and won 1-0.
Girls’ Soccer
Hand girls’ soccer hit the road to Cheshire on Oct. 23 and took a 1-0 loss in its lone contest of the week.
Girls’ Swimming and Diving
The Hand girls’ swimming and diving team had its last dual meet of the season on Oct. 23 at Lyman Hall, grabbing a strong 100-84 win. The 200 medley relay team consisting of Seorin Kim, Samantha Chemacki, Sofia Restalli, and Ariana Potter, finished in second place with a time of 2:03.07. In the 200-yard freestyle, Lillian Miller took first place (2:07.32) and Anna Jacob took second (2:11.09). Chemacki won the 200 IM (2:19.37) with Restalli in third (2:34.57).
Norah Stotz claimed second in the 50 freestyle (28.21) and Potter took third (28.39) with Kim following in fourth (28.94). Hadley Reiss was fourth in the 1-meter dive (206.10). Following her in fifth was Georgia Cohen (167.05) and Abigail Simpson in sixth (158.10). Rastelli came in second in the 100 butterfly (1:09.78) and Emily Butler finished in third (1:16.63). Colleen Hoban took fourth place in that event (1:22.29). In the 100 free, Ariana Potter (1:01.47) finished in second place. Haley Wines took third (1:02.72).
Chemacki recorded a first-place time in the 500 free (5:28.39) and Miller (5:48.31) took second. Rastelli, Wines, Potter, and Miller won the 200 free relay in 1:53.80. Kim raced to a second-place time of 1:08.48 in the 100 backstroke, with Jacob taking third (1:09.69). Stotz (1:13.83) came in fourth. In the 100 breaststroke, Molly Hoban recorded a time of 1:21.84 for first place. Aniella Lesnik (1:23.11) came in second. Wines, Miller, Chemacki, and Jacob (4:06.95) won the 400 free relay.
Girls’ Volleyball
On Oct. 23, Hand girls’ volleyball hosted Hamden and won 3-1. On Oct. 25, Plainville came to town and the Tigers claimed a 3-0 victory.
Field Hockey
Hand field hockey started the week at North Haven on Oct. 23, where they won 7-0. On Oct. 25, the Tigers hosted Cheshire and tied 0-0.
On Oct. 28, Hand hosted Hamden in the quarterfinal round of the SCC Tournament. The Tigers came out strong, winning the contest 5-0. Goals for Hand were scored by Jordan Kells (two), Katie Flanagan, Morgan Mastrobattisto, and Bridget Waters. Goalie Faith Minickene had six saves.
