Hand Girls’ Volleyball, Field Hockey Win Out on the Week


Boys’ Soccer

Hand boys’ soccer played host to Notre Dame-West Haven on Oct. 16, losing 1-0. On Oct. 18, the team hosted East Haven and won 9-0. On Oct. 20, the Tigers ended the week at Fairfield Prep and tied 2-2.

Girls’ Soccer

Girls’ soccer traveled to Shelton on Oct. 17, taking a 4-1 win. The next day, the Tigers hit the road to Sheehan and grabbed a 4-0 victory. On Oct. 20, Hand played host to Amity and recorded a 3-2 win to finish off the week.

Girls’ Volleyball

On Oct. 16, girls’ volleyball faced Sheehan on the road and grabbed a 3-1 win (25-11, 24-26, 25-23, 25-22). Senior Captain Arianna Takyar, outside hitter, recorded nine kills, 19 digs, and six aces. Senior Mia Thomas, middle blocker, added 13 kills, while junior Grace Hall, defensive specialist, had four kills, 16 digs, and a season-high 10 aces. Junior libero Julia Gallo had

20 digs, and senior captain and setter Ella D’Urso contributed with 25 assists and 19 digs.

Then, on Oct. 20, Hillhouse came to town for a doubleheader. The Tigers won the first match 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-13). Takyar had 15 digs and seven kills, and junior Taylor Ferraiolo, defensive specialist, added five aces. Senior Amy Totten, middle blocker, contributed with seven aces and five kills.

In the second match, Hand won 3-1 (25-14, 19-25, 25-14, 25-13). Junior Margeaux Langille, outside hitter, recorded seven kills and one block. Hall had six aces and 10 digs, while Totten had 10 kills.

Field Hockey

The field hockey team traveled to Sacred Heart Academy on Oct. 17 and grabbed a 2-1 victory. Two days later, the Tigers played host to Lauralton Hall and won 3-1 before winning 5-1 vs. Hall at home on Oct. 20.

Boys’ Cross Country

Hand boys’ cross country competed in the SCC Championship meet on Oct. 18, recording a team score of 234 points for eighth place. Jacob Merenda came in 25th place with a time of 17:40.3. Ben Jacoby took 42nd (18:23.3) and Jack Rickleman finished in 47th (18:28.8). Ty Boucino (18:45.3) claimed 57th place, while Christopher Bonavita took 67th place in a time of 19:13.6. Justin Li was closely behind him, finishing in 69th place with a time of 19:17.9. Max Milliard (73rd place) recorded a finishing time of 19:21.4.

Girls’ Cross Country

Girls’ cross country raced in the SCC Championship meet on Oct. 18, finishing in 10th place overall with 280 points. Marla Lafferty finished in 43rd place (23:22.8) and Geneva Zucconi (24:35.3) took 58th place. Harron Staron (64th place) recorded a time of 25:02.5, while Tessa Burch claimed 66th place in a time of 25:08.5. Ava Millen (70th place) paced to a time of 25:15.9. Natalie Greenup finished in 78th place with a time of 26:29.9.
