Branford Football Wins a Good One, Boys’ Soccer Splits the Week
Football
Branford football hosted Sheehan on Oct. 20 and won 21-13. On the rushing side, the Hornets recorded 53 total rushes for 271 yards. Akiel Lomotey went 18/138 yards with one touchdown (34-yard run). Quarterback Nate Florio (in making his season debut at the position) went 25/120 yards with one touchdown (13-yard run). He went 3-for-4 in passing for 58 yards, and also recorded 14 first downs.
Other scores for Branford came from Paul Gorry (8-yard run), Cole Snider (17-yard pass from Jaden Konesky), and Dante Dinuzzo (64-yard pass from Gorry). Branford’s defense forced Sheehan to turn the ball over on downs three times in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Boys’ Soccer
Branford boys’ soccer traveled to East Haven on Oct. 16 and won 6-1. Two days later, the Hornets played host to Shelton and fell 6-0.
Girls’ Soccer
Hornets girls’ soccer started the week vs. Sacred Heart Academy, recording a 0-0 tie on Oct. 16.
On Oct. 18, Wilbur Cross came to town and Branford dominated the visitors 10-0. The team ended the week on Oct. 20, when they traveled to Cheshire and took a 3-0 loss.
Field Hockey
The Branford field hockey team traveled to Wilton on Oct. 18, taking a 6-0 defeat. The next day, the Hornets hit the road to Hamden and won 2-1. On Oct. 21, Branford played host to Amity and fell 4-3 in overtime.
Boys’ Cross Country
The boys’ cross country team raced in the SCC Championship race on Oct. 18, placing 16th as a squad with a score of 427. Noah Hauswirth finished in 33rd place (17:58.8) while David Regan took 88th (20.00.0). Sam Coppola placed 93rd in a time of 20:13.6, and Nolan Weted came in 107th (21:20.8). Ryan Andrus (21:58.5) claimed 115th place, while Supreme Shrestha (22:16.0) was closely behind in 117th.
Girls’ Cross Country
Hornets girls’ cross country competed in the SCC Championship on Oct. 18, where they placed 11th as a team with 288 points. Violet Marrandino finished the race in 22nd place (21:31.9) and Sarit Juela-Garcia (23:52.9) took 49th. Avery Clouse (76th place) recorded a time of 26:05.4. Ella Stone followed her in 77th with a time of 26:11.6. Djamilla Toukour took 84th place with a time of 28:34.8.
Girls’ Volleyball
Girls’ volleyball played host to Wilbur Cross on Oct. 16 and won 3-0. On Oct. 20, Branford traveled to Amity and took a 3-0 defeat.
