H-K Football Dominates in 41-0 Blowout; Girls’ Cross Country Takes 1st at Brewster Bears Invitational
Football
On Oct. 13, H-K football played host to Windsor Locks/Suffield/East Granby and won in blowout fashion, 41-0. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter with Bryce Lacoss’s one-yard touchdown plunge and never looked back.
Lacoss was nearly perfect in the passing game, connecting on touchdown passes of 30 yards to Jamien Evans and eight yards to Timmy Cavrell. Also scoring for the Cougars were Tyler Napierkowski on runs of one and 16 yards and Wyatt Soloksy on a five-yard run. Solosky kicked five extra points in the game to add to his touchdown.
“We played well in all three phases of the game,” said Head Coach Tyler Wilcox. “We’ve been telling the kids every week that we are so close to getting the job done, and tonight was the night they put it all together. I’m very proud of the way they played—a total team effort.”
Boys’ Soccer
Boys’ soccer traveled to St. Paul Catholic on Oct. 9 and won 4-0. Two days later, the Cougars grabbed another win (1-0) at Westbrook. On Oct. 12, H-K traveled to North Branford and won 4-1.
Girls’ Soccer
H-K girls’ soccer hit the road to Coginchaug on Oct. 11 and won 2-1. Two days later, the Cougars hosted North Branford/Hale Ray and recorded a 5-0 shutout win.
Field Hockey
On Oct. 13, H-K field hockey traveled to Old Saybrook and fell 2-0. The next day, Wamogo came to town and the Cougars claimed a 1-0 victory.
Girls’ Volleyball
Girls’ volleyball hit the road to Daniel Hand on Oct. 10 and fell 3-0. The next day, the Cougars hosted Old Lyme and won 3-1. On Oct. 12, H-K hosted a match vs. North Branford and earned a 3-0 victory.
Cross Country
On Oct. 8, the H-K boys’ and girls’ cross country teams traveled to Brewster High School in Brewster, New York to compete in the Brewster Bears Invitational against teams from New York and Connecticut.
The boys’ varsity team ran well on the muddy 3.1-mile course in the Varsity 2 race, placing third out of 13 schools with 80 points. The boys were led by junior Jack Cozean, who crossed the line in a time of 16:53 to place sixth in the race. He was followed across the line by teammates Daniel McCourt, who ran a 17:15 to take 11th place, along with Luke Hedges in 17th (17:32), Matt Lara in 21st (17:42) and Cash Smigel in 25th (17:51) to round out the team scoring.
The girls’ team placed first overall in the Varsity 2 race with 55 points. They were led by freshman Charlotte Behnke, who placed fifth in a time of 20:30. She was followed by Grace Mitchell in eighth (20:53), Kira Sehl-Albert in 11th (21:12), Delaney Aronson in 18th (22:13), and Emi Schweitzer in 23rd (22:41).
