Local Swimmers Named to Connecticut Top 16 List
The Valley Shore YMCA has congratulated Vicky Van Berkel (Ivoryton), Emma Scherber (Chester), and Lucca Giordano (Essex) who earned a well-deserved spot on the Connecticut Swimming Top 16 List, showcasing their dedication, hard work, and talent. The Connecticut Top 16 Times List includes the best-recorded performances in approved swim meets across various age groups, such as 10/U, 11/12, 13/14, 15/16, 17/18, and Senior, held between Sept. 1 and Aug. 31.
Vicky Van Berkel placed 11th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:15.13, 15th in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 38.98, ninth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:22.40, 15th in the 50 butterfly with a time of 33.22, seventh in the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:13.74, and seventh in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:40.27. Emma Scherber placed 13th in the 11-12 Female 1650 Freestyle with a time of 23:39.42, and eighth in the 11-12 Female 1500L Freestyle with a time of 23:54.19. Lucca Giordano placed 12th in the 15-16 Male 2500L Open Water Freestyle with a time of 41:35.25.
In addition, senior swimmer Lillian Miller has been honored with a Scholar Athlete distinction by Connecticut Swimming. This recognition celebrates her outstanding achievements in both her academics and swimming pursuits. The VSYMCA is incredibly proud to have such talented swimmers representing the community. Their accomplishments not only reflect the efforts of these young individuals, but also stand as a testament to the support provided by the local YMCA, and the coaches who have nurtured their skills.
All swimmers who have achieved a spot on the Connecticut Top 16 Times List will be celebrated during an award banquet taking place at the Aqua Turf venue on Nov. 5. Olympic medalist swimmer, Cullen Jones, will be joining the celebration as a distinguished guest speaker for this special occasion.
