Branford Football Takes a Loss, Cross Country Stands Out at Invitational


Football

Branford football hosted Xavier on Oct. 6 and lost 42-14. Akiel Lomotey went 13/125 yards, with one touchdown (67-yard touchdown run). Lomotey also had an 85-yard interception return for the second Hornets score. Joe Robinson knocked in both extra points, and quarterback Scott Penner recorded four first downs.

Boys’ Soccer

The Branford boys’ soccer team traveled to Amistad on Oct. 4 and won 5-1. Two days later, the Hornets hosted Sheehan and recorded a 5-0 shutout win.

Girls’ Soccer

Hornets girls’ soccer made the trip to Amistad on Oct. 2 and won 6-0. On Oct. 5, the team hosted Guilford and fell in a tight 2-1 game.

Field Hockey

Branford field hockey hosted North Haven on Oct. 3, winning 2-0. Three days later, the Hornets traveled to Lyman Hall and earned a 3-0 victory.

Girls’ Volleyball

Girls’ volleyball played host to East Haven on Oct. 2 and won 3-0. Two days later, the Hornets hosted Lauralton Hall and took a 3-1 loss. On Oct. 6, Shelton came to town and Branford fell 3-0.

Cross Country

The Branford boys’ and girls’ cross country teams traveled to the Lauralton Hall Invite on Oct. 2. The boys finished in seventh place overall with a team score of 147 points, while the girls claimed fifth place with 123 total points.

On the boys’ side, Noah Hauswirth led the way in 11th place (19:07) followed by Sam Coppola in 24th (20:59) and David Regan in 25th (21:04). Nolan Weted finished the race in 44th place with a time of 23:01, and he was followed by Paul Lesyk in 45th, who recorded a time of 23:01.6.

For the girls, Violet Marrandino took 11th place (23:29) and Sarit Juela-Garcia took 12th (23:32). Avery Clouse followed behind them in 36th place (30:23) and Djamilla Toukour took 37th (30:23.1). Ella Stone finished the race in a time of 30:23.2, claiming 38th place.
