Westbrook Boys’ Soccer Grabs a Win, Girls’ Soccer Splits the Week

Football

Morgan-Old Saybrook-Westbrook football traveled to Cromwell/Portland on Oct. 1 and lost 35-6.

Field Hockey

Westbrook field hockey traveled to Waterford on Sept. 26 and lost 1-0. Then, on Sept. 28, the team hit the road to North Branford and fell 1-0 in overtime.

Girls’ Soccer

The Westbrook girls’ soccer team played host to East Hampton on Sept. 26 and grabbed a 1-0 victory. Kayla Prisley scored the lone goal, and goalie Giovanna Silva recorded 17 saves. Two days later, the Knights traveled to Haddam-Killingworth and lost 2-0.

Boys’ Soccer

On Sept. 26, boys’ soccer hosted Hale Ray and won 3-2. Westbrook’s goal scorers were Derick Novillo, Elliot Koplas (assisted by Luis Novillo) and John Herringer (on a penalty kick). The foul to earn the kick was on Westbrook’s Andre DeSusa. Knights goalkeeper John Freund held Hale Ray scoreless in the second half to contribute to the win.

Head Coach Derek Hanssen was proud of the boys’ efforts in the contest.

“It was a great effort by our team today,” Hanssen said. “The players didn’t give up after going down 2-1 and fought back to tie the game and eventually score the game winner. The defense in the second half really stepped up. Trevor Jones, Alex Gomez, Charlie Anderson, and Ethan Angelini worked well together to shut down Hale Ray’s attack in the second half.”
