Old Saybrook Field Hockey Wins Two While Football Wins a Blowout

Morgan-Old Saybrook-Westbrook football hosted Capital/Achievement on Sept. 22 and won 56-28. Casey Corrigan currently leads the team with 86.0 rushing yards per game, while Tyler Baldwin leads in passing yards per game (223.5) and total yards per game (260.5). The leader in total tackles per game is Jack Nye (7.5), while Ethan Lane leads the team in sacks per game (0.5). Nye’s 11.0 points per game is the team leader.
Boys’ Soccer
The Old Saybrook boys’ soccer team hit the road to face Old Lyme on Sept. 20 and won 6-1. Then, on Sept. 22, the team hosted Westbrook and won 9-0. The next day, the Rams traveled to Canton and recorded their third win of the week with a 3-1 victory.
Girls’ Soccer
Rams girls’ soccer played on back-to-back days last week. On Sept. 21, the team traveled to Westbrook and tied 1-1. The Old Saybrook goal was scored by Marie Therese Morosky, assisted by Annalise Sarette.
The next day, they hosted Old Lyme and tied 0-0 after a hard-fought match. The defensive line of sophomore Olive Egbert, freshman Grace Bollmann, senior Alex Benni, and junior Talia Bauer, along with freshman Carmen Vercillo, locked down an aggressive Old Lyme offense and not only helped keeper Kylie Lake record her third shutout of the season, but controlled the ball with possession to help Old Saybrook mount many formidable attacks and scoring opportunities.
Field Hockey
The field hockey team beat Valley Regional 4-1 at home on Sept. 19. Junior Grace Desmond scored during a corner in the second quarter, and Amelia Sigersmith assisted the goal. Sophomore Kendall Dobratz got the third quarter going with a goal on a corner play, and this was assisted by Lila Cadley. Junior captain Ayla D’Anna then scored two more goals, including one in the third quarter assisted by Amelia Sigersmith. Junior goalkeeper Erin Fiorelli had three saves.
On Sept. 22, Old Saybrook traveled to Haddam-Killingworth and grabbed a 3-1 victory. Senior captain Amelia Sigersmith got the scoring started early in the first quarter. Junior Sydney Webb then scored off a nice assist by Sigersmith midway through the quarter. Kendall Dobratz sealed the win with a goal on a corner, assisted by Lila Cadley. Fiorelli recorded four saves in net.
