North Haven Field Hockey Wins Two and Football Adds to the Winning Column
Field Hockey
The North Haven field hockey team traveled to Sheehan on Sept. 20 and lost 2-0. Then, on Sept. 22, Shelton came to town and the Nighthawks won 3-2 before winning 3-0 at Windsor on Sept. 23.
Football
The North Haven football team traveled to Fitch on Sept. 22 and won 58-28. In the first quarter, Cam Thompson recorded a 10-yard touchdown run. In the second frame, Chris Cretella (11-yard run), Joe Mastroianni (4-yard run), and Trysten Dos (1-yard run) all helped pile on the scoring. Kicker Eric Vetrano made a 37-yard field goal. Adding on in the third quarter, Cretella had a 4-yard touchdown run, and Jake McCreven recorded a 4-yard run of his own for a score. Mastroianni (16-yard run) and Thompson (8-yard run) scored for the Nighthawks in the fourth quarter.
Girls’ Swimming and Diving
The North Haven girls’ swimming and diving team hosted Lauralton Hall on Sept. 18 and lost 92-81. In the 200-yard medley relay, the foursome of Giada Garofalo, Angelina Valentino, Madisen Karavas, and Amelia Bautz finished in second with a time of 2:14.96. Morgan Nunez took second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:28.71), and Karavas won the 200-yard individual medley (2:43.20).
Garofalo placed second in the 200 IM (2:45.99). Bautz (30.42) and Valentino (31.80) took second and third place, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle. Bautz also won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:28.72), followed by Valentino in second (1:34.65). Shen Wan placed third in that event (2:01.25).
The 400-yard freestyle relay team recorded a first-place finish with a time of 4:29.15, led by Garofalo, Karavas, Nunez, and Bautz. In second place was the team of Andrea Laborde, Abigail Lorusso, Scarlett Russek, and Kaili Wan (5:28.83). On the diving side, Meghan DeRubeis finished first (227.50) and Riley Mattox took second (167.65). Nunez took third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:23.86), while Garofalo finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.22). Karavas placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (6:35.21).
Girls’ Soccer
Girls’ soccer played three games last week. On Sept. 19, the team hosted Sacred Heart Academy and lost 1-0. Then, on Sept. 21, the Nighthawks played host to Lyman Hall and won 2-0. On Sept. 23, they traveled to West Haven and won 2-1.
Boys’ Soccer
The North Haven boys’ soccer team hit the road to Wilbur Cross on Sept. 19 and lost 3-1. On Sept. 23, the Nighthawks hosted West Haven and took a 2-0 loss.
Girls’ Volleyball
The girls’ volleyball team hosted Hillhouse on Sept. 18 and won 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-11). Grace Battapaglia recorded five aces for the Nighthawks, as well as 19 assists and two digs. Avery Berney added two aces, 10 kills and four digs, and Ava Carlson had 10 kills. On Sept. 22, North Haven hosted Daniel Hand and won a close 3-2 match.
