Hand Girls’ Soccer, Field Hockey Win a Pair


Football

Hand football hosted Xavier on Sept. 22 and won 29-0. Jack Shay recorded two passing touchdowns in the game. Owen Preskar (one receiving), Quinton O’Dea (one receiving), and Aidan Dolan (two rushing) were all credited with touchdowns.

Boys’ Soccer

On Sept. 12, the Hand boys’ soccer team traveled to Jonathan Law and won 2-0. The two goals were scored by Danny McSweeney and Ernesto Barrosa, and Ethan Skonieczny and Patrick Mullally were credited with assists.

On Sept. 19, the team hosted Branford and recorded a 6-0 win. Oliver Wilker (3), Barrosa, Max Wheeler, and Mullally all scored for the Tigers. Assists came from Wilker (2), Wheeler, Mullally, and Skonieczny.

The Tigers then hit the road to Notre Dame-West Haven on Sept. 22 and lost 6-0.

The team closed out the week at East Haven on Sept. 23 and won 5-0.

Girls’ Soccer

The Hand girls’ soccer team hosted Shelton on Sept. 21, grabbing a 6-1 win. Then, on Sept. 23, the team played host to Sheehan and won 5-1.

Field Hockey

Tigers field hockey hosted Amity on Sept. 21, winning 3-1 before beating Glastonbury 1-0 two days later.

Girls’ Volleyball

On Sept. 18, the Hand girls’ volleyball team hosted Sacred Heart Academy and lost 3-0 (24-26, 22-25, 16-25). Senior Mia Thomas recorded seven kills, two aces, and two blocks. Senior captain and setter Ella D’Urso had 14 assists and three kills.

Two days later, the Tigers traveled to Plainville and grabbed a 3-0 win (25-15, 21-25, 13-25). Senior captain outside hitter Arianna Takya had 10 kills and four aces. Senior middle blocker Amy Totten returned from injury to record six kills and two blocks. Junior Clare Berry recorded six aces and five digs as a defensive specialist, playing beside junior defensive specialist Taylor Ferraiolo, who also earned five digs.

Hand hit the road to North Haven on Sept. 22 and lost a tight 3-2 match (25-16, 22-25, 25-19, 29-31, 15-10). D’Urso recorded 36 assists, seven digs, three blocks, and one kill. Takyar had 13 kills, seven digs, and one block. Junior outside hitter Margeaux Langille had 12 kills and six digs. Thomas earned 11 kills, seven blocks, two aces, and one assist. Totten had 11 kills and two blocks. Junior libero Julia Gallo had 20 digs.
