Hand Field Hockey Wins Two, Girls’ Soccer Splits the Week


Football

Hand football faced Fairfield Prep on the road on Sept. 16 and won 35-34 in overtime. Jack Shay had three passing touchdowns in the contest, while Paul Calandrelli and Aidan Dolan both had a rushing touchdown. Owen Preskar had two receiving touchdowns, and Gavin Wagner had one for the Tigers.

Boys’ Soccer

Boys’ soccer traveled to Jonathan Law on Sept. 12 for its lone game of the week and won 2-0.

Girls’ Soccer

On Sept. 12, Hand girls’ soccer hosted Mercy and lost a tight 2-1 game. Then, on Sept. 14, the Tigers traveled to Jonathan Law and won 1-0.

Field Hockey

The Hand field hockey team earned a commanding 8-0 shutout win over Lyman Hall on Sept. 11. Then, on Sept. 13, the Tigers traveled to Guilford and won 1-0. The lone goal was scored by Jordan Kells. Faith Minickene had 11 saves in net.

Girls’ Volleyball

Girls’ volleyball traveled to Greenwich on Sept. 11 and lost 3-0. The next match for the Tigers was on Sept. 13, when they hosted Shelton and also took a 3-0 loss. On Sept. 15, Hand played host to Lauralton Hall and won 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-16, 25-9). Senior captain Ella D’Urso, the team’s setter, had 21 assists and 12 digs. Junior libero Julia Gallo recorded 21 digs, while senior Mia Thomas had 12 kills. Also contributing for the Tigers was senior captain Arianna Takyar, who had 19 digs and nine kills, including the game-winning point. Junior Margeaux Langille had a service run of nine points, including two aces in the final set of the match. Sophomore Kayla Warnke made her varsity debut with an ace for the penultimate point of the match. She followed it with another great serve that led to the game-winning kill by Takyar.
