Old Saybrook Football, Boys’ Soccer Record Shutout Wins

Football

The Morgan/Old Saybrook/Westbrook football team hosted Coventry/Windham Tech/Bolton/Lyman on Sept. 15 and won in 54-0 blowout fashion.

Boys’ Soccer

The Old Saybrook boys’ soccer team played its lone game of the week on Sept. 14, when the Rams hosted Valley Regional and won 5-0. Brayden Cody scored two goals for the Rams, as did Kevin Decapua. Brendan Casella was credited with an assist. The Old Saybrook defense held Valley to only two shots in the contest, and London Sweeney recorded two saves in goal for the shutout, before Carlos Torrez-Velez played in net the final 10 minutes of the game. Drew Kulmann and Jack Morin locked down on defense to help secure the victory.

Girls’ Soccer

Old Saybrook girls’ soccer won a 7-0 game at home vs. Amistad on Sept. 11. Lauren Dobratz and Annalise Sarette had two goals each. Marie-Therese Morosky scored a goal and had two assists, and Ainsley Sigersmith and Olivia Stone both scored. Ellie Pennington and Elizabeth Bubello each had assists, while Kylie Lake posted her second clean sheet of the season in net.

The Rams then hosted Valley Regional three days later and lost 3-1. Annalise Sarette recorded the lone Old Saybrook goal, scoring a header off of an Olive Egbert corner kick.

On Sept. 16, Old Saybrook traveled to face North Branford/Hale Ray and grabbed a 5-0 win. Annalise Sarette led off the scoring with a left-footed volley shot from an Olive Egbert cross in the second minute of the game. Bree Cooke scored next, capitalizing on a rebound left by a North Branford keeper save on an Ainsley Sigersmith shot. Grace Bollmann also scored in the first half, beating the keeper to the far post with a shot from the 18-yard line. In the second half, Jameli Jara scored twice. The first one was off of a cross from Ainsley Sigersmith, and the second was a beautiful header from a Zoe Parakilas cross.

Field Hockey

The Old Saybrook field hockey team hosted Westbrook/Old Lyme Co-op on Sept. 12 and grabbed a 1-0 victory. The goal was scored in the third minute of the third quarter by junior captain Ayla D’Anna. Junior Sydney Webb assisted on the score. Junior Erin Fiorelli was in goal for the Rams and had seven saves.

On Sept. 15, the Rams traveled to North Branford and lost 6-0 before tying 0-0 at Granby Memorial on Sept. 16. In the game vs. North Branford, Fiorelli recorded eight saves in goal, followed by six saves vs. Granby Memorial in a game that went to overtime.

Cross Country

The Old Saybrook boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in their first meet of the season on Sept. 12 at Morgan, where they also faced Old Lyme and Valley Regional. Both Rams’ teams won their respective races.

Top finishers for the boys were Parker Cook (No. 1), Everett Miller (No. 2), Nwang Choegyal (No. 4), Gordon Martino (No. 5), and Dillon Blewitt (No. 6). On the girls’ side, the top finishers included Carly Castro (No. 2), Hannah Belknap (No. 8), Mia Casterano (No. 11), Cassie Garcia (No. 12), and Cat Pamment (No. 13). The girls’ team finished with an overall score of 46, and the boys recorded a team score of 19.
