North Haven Football Grabs a Win, Swimming and Diving Stands Out in Meet

The North Haven football team traveled to Sheehan on Sept. 16 and won 31-21. In the first quarter, Connor Rapuano had a 79-yard interception return for a score. Ryan Bernardo (21-yard reception) and Joey Mastroiano (8-yard run) led the scoring for the Nighthawks in the second quarter. Trysten Dos also added a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Girls’ Soccer
Girls’ soccer hosted Jonathan Law on Sept. 12 and suffered a 3-2 loss. On Sept. 14, the team hosted Mercy and lost 3-0.
Boys’ Soccer
Nighthawks boys’ soccer played host to Amity on Sept. 12, suffering a 2-1 loss. On Sept. 15, they played host to Guilford and lost 4-1.
Girls’ Swimming and Diving
The Nighthawks girls’ swimming and diving team had its first meet of the season at Shelton on Sept. 12. North Haven lost by the score of 91-64.
Scarlett Russek, Angelina Valentino, Amelia Bautz, and Abigail Lorusso took third in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:32.61. Reese Tesla, Andrea Laborde, Kaili Wan, and Abigail Ray followed in fourth place (2:50.09). Madisen Karavas won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:19.41. In the 200-yard IM, Morgan Nunez (2:55.68) and Bautz (3:03.41) took third and fourth place, respectively. Giada Garofalo (28.05) claimed second in the 50-yard freestyle, and Valentino took fourth in that event (33.39). Lorusso finished in sixth place (35.82).
Karavas (1:16.55) came in second place in the 100-yard butterfly, followed by Nunez in fourth (1:28.30). Garofalo finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.58). Laborde’s time of 7:32.33 was good enough for second place in the 500-yard freestyle, and Avery Cullen followed her in third place (7:38.94). Karavas kept up her strong day with a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, along with teammates Angelina Valentino, Nunez, and Garofalo (2:04.18). Bautz won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:30.47) followed by Valentino in second (1:37.17). Finally, the 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Laborde, Cullen, Lorusso, and Russek finished in first place with a time of 4:34.28.
Field Hockey
The North Haven field hockey team faced Amity on the road on Sept. 12 and lost 2-1. The team hosted Hamden on Sept. 14 and took a 3-1 loss.
Girls’ Volleyball
The Nighthawks girls’ volleyball team took a road trip to Lyman Hall on Sept. 11, where they won 3-2. The team hosted Amity on Sept. 13 and fell 3-0. Avery Berney recorded two aces, three kills, and 12 digs, while Alyssa Ferriouolo had one ace and 15 digs. They then hit the road again on Sept. 15 and lost 3-2 vs. Sheehan.
