Branford Field Hockey Wins Two Straight, Football Comes Up Big
Football
The Branford football team traveled to Amity on Sept. 14 and won 37-14. Quarterback Scott Penner went 5-for-7 with 112 yards and one touchdown. On defense, Declan Kearney recorded two sacks for 20 yards and three tackles for loss. Nathan Florio (17 carries for 58 yards), Akiel Lomotey (8 for 82 yards, one 85-yard receiving touchdown), and Cole Snider (9 for 27 yards, one touchdown) contributed in the run game. Jelani Lomotey had a 28-yard interception return for a score, while Florio had a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Boys’ Soccer
The Branford boys’ soccer team traveled to Sheehan on Sept. 12 and grabbed a 2-0 win. On Sept. 14, the Hornets hosted Fairfield Prep and lost 3-2.
Girls’ Soccer
Girls’ soccer lost a tight 3-2 game at Guilford on Sept. 12 before hosting Foran on Sept. 15 and winning 4-0.
Field Hockey
Hornets field hockey faced Shelton at home on Sept. 12 and won 6-1. Goals for the Hornets were scored by Tate Jones (3), Mia d’Amuri, Aliza Giordano, and Jessica Radziunas. Jones (2), Giordano, and Ella Kelly all recorded assists in the game. Julia Bozzi and Lilly Panuccio manned the net for Branford. The team also had outstanding performances from Randee Chobian, Reanna Sachs, Skylar Dunn, and Sophia Taranto. They then traveled to Mercy on Sept. 15 and won 4-0.
Girls’ Volleyball
The Branford girls’ volleyball team played games on back-to-back days last week. On Sept. 13, the Hornets traveled to Lauralton Hall and won 3-0. The next day, they hit the road to Shelton and lost 3-0.
