Several Branford Teams Make Their Mark in Season Debuts


Football

Branford football faced Bassick at home on Sept. 8 in its season opener, dominating the visitors by a score of 49-0. Nate Florio recorded two touchdowns, a 21-yard run in the first quarter and an 8-yard run in the second. Cole Snider also contributed with a 48-yard touchdown run, and Jeter DeCusati returned an interception 90 yards for a score. Akiel Lomotey ran in a 12-yard touchdown, and Alex LeBlanc ran in a 32-yard interception for a touchdown. In the third quarter, Joe Robinson scored on a 2-yard touchdown run.

Boys’ Soccer

On Sept. 9, the Hornets boys’ soccer team hosted Amistad to begin the season. They started off on a good note, winning the game 2-0.

Girls’ Soccer

On Sept. 7, the Branford girls’ soccer team opened its season at home vs. Amistad. Determined to start the season strong, the Hornets recorded a 9-0 win.

Field Hockey

Branford field hockey faced New Canaan at home on Sept. 9, hoping to start the season on a high note. The Hornets won 1-0 in an overtime thriller. The lone goal was scored by Mia d'Amuri and assisted by Aliza Giordano. Julia Bozzi also recorded two saves in net. Branford also had standout performances from Tate Jones, Jessica Radziunas, Skylar Dunn, Reanna Sachs, Ellie Wieland, Hana Omeragic, and Eliza Burgess.

Girls’ Volleyball

Girls’ volleyball traveled to East Haven on Sept. 7 to make their season debut. The Hornets won 3-0.
