On June 19, the 10u Madison Travel Tigers baseball team clinched the East Shore Travel League (ESTL) 10u Majors Championship with a thrilling 12-11 win over Guilford Grizzlies Travel Baseball at Baroni Field in Middletown. With a 20-4 ESTL record, the Tigers were the No. 4 seed in the playoffs and made it to the championship game after a 3-2 win over the CT Mets in the semifinals.

Team Manager Elliot Kaiman was proud of the boys for their efforts throughout the season, which stated in late January, and keeping their eyes on their goal.

“This Tigers team exemplified a team-first approach, with meaningful contributions from up and down the roster and in all facets of the game,” said Kaiman. “The coaches regularly encouraged the ballplayers to think about their season as a marathon and not a sprint, to continue to build and to peak as a team when it mattered most, and that is what they did. Like any baseball season, we had our ups and downs, but the ballplayers continued to work hard and trust the process. Having coached a number of travel and little league baseball teams over the years, this really is an exceptional and committed group of kids, and, importantly, families. Consistent focus, energy, and hard work don’t automatically equal success between the lines, but they position teams for success and, in this case, resulted in a season with too many special moments to count, lots of smiles, and a well-deserved championship, all of which I hope the boys will never forget. A shout out and special thanks to all of the coaches and families – it takes a village.”

The Tigers’ full team roster was comprised of Nathan Brown, Christian Capizzi, Cole Cartier, Everett Collins, George Francis, Otto Grimes, Wesley Jopling, Otto Kaiman, Sam Kennedy, William Merschman, Graham Stulhman, and Miles Ward.

The team was coached by Jason Brown, Chad Francis, Tom Kennedy, Kevin Capizzi, Joe Merschman, and Coakley Jopling.
