Press Release From the Lorraine S. Splain Field Hockey Scholarship Committee

It is with great pleasure that the Lorraine S. Splain Field Hockey Scholarship Committee announces the 2023 scholarship recipients at Old Saybrook High School.

This year, three recipients were selected and they are Magdalena Ashe, Shelby Dorothy, and Kate Molesky. All three athletes are members of the Old Saybrook High School field hockey team and graduated on June 14 at 5 p.m.

Magdalena Ashe is the daughter of Lauren and Bror Ashe and was a co-captain of the 2022 Rams field hockey team. She played left midfield and plans to attend Suffolk University to major in Graphic Design and Advertisement.

Shelby Dorothy is the daughter of Lori and Dave Dorothy, played center defense/midfield for Old Saybrook in 2022 and plans to attend Middlesex Community College studying Criminal Justice or Business Administration. Her favorite memory was when Coach Lorraine Splain used her field hockey stick for the first hit of the 2022 season under the new turf field lights.

Kate Molesky is the daughter of Anna and Todd Molesky and was a co-captain of the 2022 Rams field hockey team. She played goalie, and her Capstone Project was to have a field hockey clinic for the Old Saybrook Middle School students to develop interest and skills in field hockey. Kate plans to attend Merrimack College to study Liberal Arts.

The Lorraine S. Splain Field Hockey Scholarship began in 2019 and over the past four years, five scholarships have been awarded, in addition to the three in 2023, to graduating senior members of the Old Saybrook field hockey team.

Many of these field hockey players and scholarship recipients have gone on to play Club, Intramural or Intercollegiate field hockey.
