Branford Outdoor Track Stands Out on State Open, New England Stages
Girls’ Outdoor Track
At the State Open Championship on June 5, Branford’s Lucy Moran took third place in the 1600, setting a new school record with a time of 4:56.92. The 4x400 team, comprised of Joelle Budz, Ella Stone, Glorianna Buckley and Moran claimed 18th place with a time of 4:13.22.
Moran also finished sixth in the 1600 (5:03.28) at the New England Interscholastic Outdoor Championships in Bangor, Maine on June 10.
Boys’ Outdoor Track
On June 5, three of the Branford boys’ track and field athletes competed at the State Open at Willowbrook Park in New Britain. Colin Donahoe finished ninth in the 800 (1:56.78), Ryder Kropiwnicki tied for fourth in the pole vault (13’ 0”) and Drew Schwartz placed second in the javelin (169’11”).
With their top six performances, Kropiwnicki (pole vault) and Schwartz (javelin) qualified to compete on June 10 at the New England Interscholastic Outdoor Championships at Cameron Stadium in Bangor Maine. Schwartz threw a new personal record of 178’ 10” to finish in fourth place.
