Warriors boys’ tennis added two losses and a win to bring the season record to 5-6. On May 1, they hosted Coginchaug in a 6-1 victory. Tomas Dahl (6-1, 6-2), Aidan Garrity (6-0, 6-1), Charlie Whelan (6-0, 6-3), and Shep Whitney (forfeit) earned singles wins. The doubles duos of Ed Johnson/Ryan Poulin (7-5, forfeit), and Jonathan Alberto/Jared Brower (forfeit) recorded wins.
On May 3, the team traveled to Old Lyme, falling in an 0-7 loss. They returned home on May 4 to host Haddam-Killingworth in a 2-5 defeat. Whitney (6-3, 6-3) earned a singles victory, and Nic Cartagena/Jonathan Alberto (7-5, 6-3) won in doubles play.
Softball
Warriors softball’s two-game winning streak came to an end after the team recorded two losses. The team hosted East Hampton on May 1, edging out an 11-10 victory. They hosted Morgan on May 3 in an 11-6 win. The team took to the road on May 4 to face Somers in a 7-5 loss before facing Cromwell on the road in a 5-1 loss on May 5. The team ins now 5-9 for the season.
Girls’ Tennis
Girls’ tennis split the week with a win on the road and a loss at home. On May 1, the team traveled to face Coginchaug, earning a 5-2 win. Natalie Novak (6-0, 6-0) and Hannah Schwartzman (6-1, 6-1) won in singles play. Samara Shankar/Clara Shea (6-2, 6-0), Regan Grow/Alessia Pisanzio (6-2, 6-2), and Ashley Cap/Fallyn Belisle (6-1, 6-0) won in doubles.
They returned home on May 3 to host Portland, falling in the 0-7 loss. The Warriors are 8-3 for the season.
Boys’ Lacrosse
The tough season continued for boys’ lacrosse, falling in two more contests. On May 2, the team hosted Old Lyme and came up short in a close 9-8 loss. They traveled to Cromwell on May 4, losing 10-3. The team is now 2-9.
Baseball
Baseball picked up a trio of wins last week. On May 3, the team traveled to Clinton, defeating Morgan 11-0. They hosted Cromwell on May 5, picking up a 10-2 victory. The Warriors returned to the road on May 6 to face East Hampton in an 11-1 win. The Warriors are 11-5 for the season.
Girls’ Lacrosse
Girls’ lacrosse grabbed its first win of the season last week, bringing their record to 1-9. On May 2, the team traveled to Old Lyme and were defeated 18-2. They returned home on May 4 to host Cromwell, edging out a 17-16 victory. On May 6, they hosted Wolcott and came up short in a 13-11 loss.
Golf
On May 1, Valley golf hosted East Lyme and fell 164-197. Tyler Ruel scored a 43 on the course, Kevin King recorded a 53 and Jake McKenna followed with a 51. Will Kelly scored a 50 and Owen Gallagher scored a 59.
On May 2, Portland came to town and defeated the Warriors 156-186. Ruel scored a 43, King received a 51, and McKenna scored a 46 as did Kelly. Gallagher followed with a 66. Valley hosted Old Saybrook on May 3 and lost 170-194. This time, Ruel scored a 42, King scored a 49, McKenna scored a 56 and Kelly scored a 48. Gallagher recorded a 55.
Finally, the Warriors hosted North Branford on May 4. The Thunderbirds squeaked out a 182-190 victory. In the contest, Ruel recorded a 44, King scored a 40, Braeden Nunes scored a 56 and Kelly scored a 50. Gallagher recorded a 58.
Crew
On May 6, Valley crew traveled to E.O. Smith. The Warriors captured first place in five out of the six races. The boys’ varsity one boat recorded a time of 5:46.7 and the girls’ varsity one boat recorded a time of 6:12.1.
