Hand Girls’ Lacrosse Ends Five-Win Streak; Boys’ Tennis Wins Two


Baseball

Tigers baseball broke even this past week, adding two wins and two losses to its resume to bring their season record to 6-7. On April 24, the team hosted West Haven in a 10-2 victory. Troy Piascik was 2-4 with three RBI. Sam Markovitz went 2-3 with three RBI and Vinny Benevento was 2-4 with two RBI. Nick Antonetti scored two runs as did Tai Nuzzi. Brandon SanMarco earned his third win of the season while striking out four batters.

Hand traveled to Groton on April 26, falling to Fitch 8-5. Piascik was 3-3 with two RBI. Paul Calandrelli went 2-3 with an RBI, and Cole Daignault and Nuzzi both had two hits, including a double. On April 28, the team traveled to Wallingford, defeating Lyman Hall 3-2. In this contest, Ben Kuja was 2-3 with two RBI, including the go-ahead single in the top of the seventh inning with two outs. Benevento was 2-4 with an RBI single and Piascik was 1-3 with two runs scored. Johnny Reh struck out five batters, while Sam Markovitz earned the win in relief.

On May 1, the Tigers hosted Guilford and fell 5-3. Piascik was 3-4 and Nuzzi was 2-4 with an RBI. Nick Antonetti had an RBI single, and Benevento recorded a double.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Girls’ lacrosse’ five-game win streak came to an end last week, after the team started the week out with a win. On April 24, the team hosted Guilford for a 12-9 victory. They traveled to East Lyme on April 27, falling 13-10. The Tigers are 8-2 for the season.

Boys’ Volleyball

Boys’ volleyball split the week, taking both a win and a loss on the road. On April 26, the team traveled to Cheshire in a 3-1 loss. They hit the road to Brookfield on April 28, defeating their hosts 3-0. The team is now 3-9.

Boys’ Tennis

Boys’ tennis added a pair of wins last week to continue an undefeated season before taking its first loss. They hosted Guilford on April 24 in a 7-0 decision. Elliot Booth (6-0, 6-0), Andrew Seehusen (6-2, 6-2), Marcello Gonzelves (6-1, 6-2), and Deacon Wilkens (6-4, 6-2) picked up wins in singles play. Matt Vetter/Paul Fumex (6-1, 6-1), Will Dodd/Gavin Waterman (6-4, 6-0), and Trent Wiles/Xander Konstantino (6-2, 6-4) recorded doubles victories.

They traveled to take on Notre Dame-West Haven on April 25, winning 4-3. Wilkins (6-2, 6-2) earned a singles victory. Vetter/Fumex (6-2, 6-0), Dodd/Waterman (6-1, 6-1), and Wiles/Patrick McEwen (6-3, 6-2) earned doubles wins. On May 1, the Tigers traveled to Farfield Prep and took a 7-0 loss.

The team is now 10-1.

Softball

Softball split the week, earning a win at home and falling on the road. On April 24, the team hosted East Haven in a 5-1 victory. They traveled to Guilford on April 26, falling 1-0. The team is now 3-10.

Girls’ Tennis

Girls’ tennis added two more wins to its season record, improving to 7-0 for the season. On April 24, the team traveled to Hamden to take on Sacred Heart Academy in a 6-1 victory. Laila Haraj-Sai (7-5, 1-6, 1-0, (10-2)), Loden Bradstreet (6-0, 6-0, her third shutout in a row), Antoinette Lowy (6-0, 6-0, her second shutout in a row), and Emma Lee (6-4, 6-1) won in singles. The doubles duos of Libby Rogers/Ella Helfrich (6-0, 6-0), and Sofia Felgate/Mia Scott (8-4) recorded wins.

On April 26, the Tigers returned home to host Jonathan Law and recorded a 7-0 win. Haraj-Sai (6-1, 6-2), Bradstreet (6-0, 6-0), Lowy (6-0, 6-0), and Lee (6-4, 6-1) recorded singles victories. Rogers/Helfrich (6-1, 6-7, (5-7), 6-1), Teagan Ariyan/Juliana Jorens (6-4, 6-1), and Felgate/Scott (6-3, 6-0) put up doubles wins.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Boys’ lacrosse continued its winning ways, adding two more wins to their season record before recording a loss. On April 25, the team hosted Notre Dame-West Haven for a 17-10 victory. Will Kleine scored seven goals in the contest, including his 100th career goal. The team hosted Fairfield Ludlowe on April 29, picking up a 15-7 victory before falling 14-9 vs. Cheshire on May 1. The Tigers are 8-2 for the season.
