Branford Outdoor Track Hosts Annual Alumni Meet; Girls’ Lacrosse Splits the Week

Outdoor Track

On April 15, alumni of Branford High School (BHS) track and field showed up at the track to compete against current BHS athletes and raise money for the Scott Jenkin Memorial Scholarship Fund. After 12 events of running, jumping and throwing, the alumni defeated the current team members 60-47.

The current athletes were very appreciative of the alumni, and the coaches are very thankful for the alumni who contributed over $500 toward the scholarship fund, which recognizes one BHS track and field athlete every year. Members of the alumni team were Rich Biondi, Mike Petela, Mike Curley, Chris Annino, Pedro Boskovic, Brian Curley, Brandon Johnson, Joe D’Amico, Xavier Johnson, Kory King, Chris Massey, Bryan D’Orlando, Ryan Ferguson, Ryan Sullivan, and Kevin Connell.

For twenty-five years, Scott Jenkin coached football, indoor track, and outdoor track at BHS. A kind and devoted coach, Scott served as the co-head track and field coach with Rich Biondi. During their tenure, the Hornets compiled a record of 214-82, also winning the 2005 Class MM state championship, the 2008 SCC championship, as well as three sectional titles and nine divisional championships. The New Haven Register twice recognized Scott as Coach of the Year, and in 2010 he was inducted into the Branford Sports Hall of Fame.

As the in-school suspension teacher, Scott made a profound impact on the student body at BHS. The beloved teacher and coach passed away on July 3, 2016.
