North Branford Boys’ Ice Hockey Falls in State Semis; Boys’ Swimming and Diving Competes at State Championship
Boys’ Ice Hockey
The North Branford boys’ ice hockey season came to an end after a 1-0 Division II State Tournament semifinal loss on March 15 vs. #1 seeded North Haven. T-Birds captain Aidan Geist finished his high school career with 27 saves (500 total season saves).
Boys’ Swimming and Diving
The Greater New Haven Warriors boys’ swimming and diving team competed at the Class L Boys’ Swimming Championship on March 16, where they took fifth place as a team.
Aiden Cohen claimed fourth place in the 50 yard freestyle (21.83) and sixth in the 100 yard freestyle (48.50). Josue Bravo (5:08.52) and Sam Mayo (5:12.00) took 10th and 11th place, respectively, in the 500 yard freestyle. The 200 yard freestyle relay team, consisting of Joey Gould, William Cong, Bravo, and Cohen took fifth place with a time of 1:32.54. In the Diving Championships, Christian Butler took second place in the 1 meter dive (457.80) and Natalya Guerrero took 10th place (263.20).
The team also competed at the State Open Championship on March 18, taking 19th place overall as a squad. Butler claimed sixth place (470.95) in the Diving State Open’s 1 meter dive. Cohen placed 10th in both the 50 yard freestyle (22.00) and the 100 yard freestyle (48.12). The 200 freestyle relay team (Gould, Cong, Bravo, and Cohen) placed 14th with a time of 1:31.23. The 400 freestyle relay team (Gould, Bravo, Mayo, and Cohen) recorded a team time of 3:23.14 for 19th place.
