Madison 4th Grade Boys’ Travel Basketball Team Wins League Championship
On March 5, the Madison 4th grade boys’ travel basketball team won the Connecticut Basketball Conference League Championship, defeating East Lyme 27-17 at East Lyme Middle School.
Madison lost three games in league play this season and had to face all three of those teams again in the playoffs. As the #5 seed going into the tournament, the boys knocked out the #4, #1, and #2 seeds on their way to the championship.
The team is coached by Tim Henry, Joe Merschman, and Chris Rahn.
“I can’t tell you how proud the other coaches (Joe Merschman and Chris Rahn) and I are of these 4th grade boys,” Henry said. “Starting last weekend with the semifinals against Ledyard where the boys held them to their season low, to the championship game against East Lyme on Sunday also holding them to their season low. Both teams beat us during regular season play. This just proves how determined and resilient these boys are and that defense truly wins championships. So much fun coaching these kids this season!”
The full Madison 4th grade roster includes Nathan Brown, Daniel Carroll, Alexander Greene, Xander Hammel, Jack Henry, Asher Jacoby, Ryan Kyttle, Owen Maloney, William Merschman, Richard Mills, Matthew Rahn, and Gavin Ufland.
