Hand Girls’ Basketball Rolls Through States; Ski Team Stands Out at State Open

Boys’ Ice Hockey

Boys’ ice hockey took a pair of wins last week, recording victories over North Branford and West Haven. The team traveled to North Branford on Feb. 27 in a 2-1 victory. Ryan Pfaff opened the scoring for the Tigers, with assists going to Matt Gervais and Owen Scarice. On March 1, they hosted West Haven for a 6-2 win. They are now 9-10-1 on the season.

Girls’ Basketball

Tigers girls’ basketball recorded three wins to kick off state tournament play. The team defeated Prince RVT on Feb. 27 in a 56-11 victory. They convincingly defeated Waterford on March 2 by a score of 63-25, and pulled off a big upset against top-seeded Northwestern on March 6 in a 54-51 contest.

Girls’ Ice Hockey

Girls’ ice hockey recorded a narrow 7-6 loss on Feb. 27 at home versus the Suffield co-op.

Skiing

The Hand ski team competed at the CISL State Open on Feb. 27. Top finishers for the Tigers included Jack Barrett in 10th place for the boys with a combined time of 44.5. Bridget Waters and Lily Vest took first and second place, respectively, for the girls. Waters recorded a combined time of 44.04 and Vest recorded a combined time of 44.12. All three skiers were named to the All State team. Hand recorded a varsity time of 292.61 as a team for the girls, taking fifth place.
