Valley Girls’ Basketball Coasts in State Tournament; Boys’ Hockey Prepares for States


Girls’ Basketball

The Valley girls’ basketball team opened up the Class M State Tournament as the #3 seed with a bye in the first round. They faced the #19 seed Haddam-Killingworth in the second round, where the Warriors grabbed a 52-37 win. Abby Bradbury led the way with 16 points, while Lily Grow scored 13. Olivia Cunningham added 11 points, Sienna Schaller had five points, and Elizabeth Allen had four points. Regan Grow contributed three points in the win.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The East Haven boys’ ice hockey co-op team played its final regular season game on Feb. 26, falling to North Haven by a score of 8-3. John D’Albero put East Haven on the board at 3:07 of the first period, assisted by Griffin McGlinchey. The Yellowjackets’ other two goals both came in the second period, with McGlinchey scoring at the 7:36 mark on assists from D’Albero and Ben Frazier. D’Albero then scored an unassisted goal at 4:40 of the period. Jon-Paul Garea recorded 52 saves in net while allowing the eight goals.

Girls’ Ice Hockey

The Daniel Hand girls’ ice hockey co-op took a close loss to Suffield co-op on Feb. 27, falling to the visitors 7-6.

Boys’ Basketball

Two Valley boys’ basketball players were named to the Shoreline All-Conference team this season. Senior Sam Hutchinson was named Second Team All-Conference and senior Andrew Yermenson was an honorable mention.
