North Haven Boys’ Ice Hockey Secures Conference Crown; Girls’ Basketball Wins Two in States

North Haven girls’ basketball picked up a pair of wins in the Class L State Championship. They defeated #24 ranked Maloney on Feb. 27, 57-28. Ava Halovatch led all scorers with 14 points; Julia Ball chipped in 13, and Ava Papa contributed 10 points. On March 2, the team took on eighth-ranked Bristol Central in a 58-46 victory.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
The North Haven boys’ ice hockey team traveled to East Haven on Feb. 26 to face the East Haven co-op team in an 8-3 Nighthawks win. First period goals were scored by Ben Gilbert (assisted by Owen Quick) and Will Sullivan (assisted by Quick). The Nighthawks then scored three goals in the second period. Jake Donovan scored two power play goals (assisted by Sullivan on the first and Sullivan and Alex Petersen on the second), and then Sullivan found the net at the 0:19 mark, with Petersen and Tommy Guidone on the assists. In the third period, Petersen padded the lead (with Sullivan on the assist), Nolan Cole scored (assisted by Quick), and finally, Petersen hammered one home with Guidone on the assist. North Haven then went on to win the SCC Division II Championship for the third season in a row, defeating Guilford 5-4 and Watertown-Pomperaug 6-1.
