Guilford Boys’ Ice Hockey Grabs Two Wins, While Boys’ Basketball Falls in SCC Tournament


Boys’ Basketball

Boys’ basketball ended the regular season with a home victory, bringing their overall record to 13-5. The team hosted Abbott Tech on Feb. 20 in a 51-30 victory. Senior Riley Swan poured on 17 points in the win. The Grizzlies were defeated in the opening round of the SCC playoffs, falling to Daniel Hand 70-56. Luke St. Marie led scoring for the Grizzlies with 15 points.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

Boys’ ice hockey took a pair of wins and a loss last week, moving the team’s overall record to 8-6-1. On Feb. 20, the team hosted Brookfield/Bethel/Danbury in a 6-3 victory. Leo Hergan record two goals in the win, and Jacob Corso added one. Sean McSweet was 17/20 for saves. The Grizzlies hit the road on Feb. 22, traveling to take on Cheshire in a 7-5 loss and then headed to Groton on Feb. 25 to face the Eastern CT Eagles in a 5-4 victory. Nate Ponzio scored the winning goal with five minutes remaining in regulation, the second of his two goals. Shane Considine also chipped in two goals.

Girls’ Ice Hockey

The Guilford girls’ ice hockey co-op split the week, posting a win at home and a loss on the road to bring their season record to 10-11. The team faced Masuk on Feb. 20 in a 4-2 win. They hit the road on Feb. 22 in a 5-1 loss to West Haven.
