Valley Girls’ Basketball Loses Close Conference Tournament Matchup; Girls’ Ice Hockey Takes a Home Loss
Girls’ Basketball
Warriors girls’ basketball dropped a close game in the semifinal round of the Shoreline Athletic Conference playoffs on Feb. 21. Cromwell defeated Valley 40-37. Abby Bradbury led the way for the Warriors with 11 points, and Olivia Cunningham added nine points. Lily Grow and Elizabeth Allen scored eight points and four points, respectively, and Siena Schaller contributed three points. Regan Grow added two points in the loss. The team continues postseason play as the third-ranked team in the CIAC Class M tournament, earning a first-round bye.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
Yellowjackets boys’ hockey fell short 5-3 on the road on Feb. 25 against Woodstock Academy. Johnny D’Albero scored all three of the team’s goals. On his first goal, he was assisted by Nick Perillo in the first period. In the second period, D’Albero scored his second goal, assisted by both Perillo and Griffin McGlinchey. At 4:31 of the third period, D’Albero recorded the hat trick, with assists from Perillo and Dylan Ingram. East Haven then faced North Haven at home on Feb. 26, taking a 8-3 loss. They are now 4-8-2 on the season.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Daniel Hand girls’ ice hockey co-op took a loss last week to bring their overall record to 7-9-1. They hosted Watertown-Pomperaug on Feb. 22, falling 6-4.
Boys’ Basketball
The boys’ basketball team fell in the quarterfinal round of the SLC tournament on Feb. 25. They were defeated 49-40 by Old Saybrook.
