Boys’ ice hockey split the week, recording both a win and loss at home. The team hosted the Eastern CT Eagles on Feb. 15 in a 5-1 victory. Mike Matteo opened the scoring for the T-Birds in the first period, with assists from Jake Pedersen and CJ Sherwood. Sherwood then lit up the ice in the second period, scoring four goals of his own. Assisting CJ’s efforts were Matteo (2), Brady Martinik, Pedersen, and Jack Maley. Goalie Aidan Geist recorded 28 total saves on the night,
On Feb. 17, Woodstock Academy came to town, dealing the T-Birds a 6-1 loss. After nearly a scoreless first period, Michael Matteo received a hard-fought pass from linemate CJ Sherwood and slid one through the Centaur goalie for the T-Birds’ lone score of the game. The Thunderbirds are 8-7-2 on the season.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Guilford girls’ ice hockey co-op snared a pair of wins last week. The team recorded a 3-1 win over Fairfield Ludlowe/Warde on Feb. 13, and they hit the road to face Ridgefield/Danbury/Immaculate on Feb. 17, taking a 5-4 overtime victory. They are 9-10 for the season.
Boys’ Basketball
North Branford boys’ basketball had a tough week, ending their season with back-to-back losses. The team hosted East Hampton on Feb. 13 in a 65-48 loss. East Haven came to town on Feb. 15 in a narrow 52-47 defeat. The T-Birds ended the season 5-15.
Girls’ Basketball
Thunderbirds girls’ basketball ended the regular season with a pair of tough losses, falling on Feb. 14 to East Hampton and on Feb. 18 to Valley Regional. They traveled to East Hampton on Feb. 14 for a 78-46 loss and then hit the road to Deep River in a 83-55 defeat. The team is 8-13 for the season.
Wrestling
The North Branford wrestling team competed at the Class S State Championship on Feb. 17-18, at which they took 26th place overall as a squad with 24 points.
