Hand Boys’ Basketball Rolls to Two Wins; Indoor Track Competes at States
Boys’ Ice Hockey
Tigers boys’ ice hockey stumbled last week, recording a pair of losses in two road conference games. The team traveled to East Haven on Feb. 6 in a 3-0 loss. On Feb. 11, the team hit the road to face Branford, falling 4-2. They are now 6-8-1 for the season.
Boys’ Basketball
Boys’ basketball rolled to a pair of wins last week, taking decisive victories over East Haven and Branford. The team hosted East Haven on Feb. 7 in a 76-55 win. Hudson Geremia led all scorers for Hand with 22 points. Kyle Hoffman poured in 13 points, Elijah Avery-Turner chipped in 9, and Thomas McCullough added 8. The Tigers hosted Branford on Feb. 10 for Senior Night in a 75-49 win. Aidan Doyle led the Tigers with five 3-pointers. The team is now 11-6.
Girls’ Basketball
Girls’ basketball split the week, recording a win and a loss on the road. On Feb. 7, the team traveled to North Haven, grabbing a narrow 68-60 victory. They visited Hamden on Feb. 10 to face Sacred Heart Academy in a 56-38 loss. The Tigers are now 14-6 for the season.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Daniel Hand girls’ ice hockey co-op took a loss on the road last week, falling to the Hamden co-op 5-0 on Feb. 8. The team is 10-6 for the season.
Indoor Track
The boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams competed at the Class M State Championship on Feb. 11, where the girls placed eighth as a team, and the boys placed 12th. Julia Coric placed fourth in the 300 meter dash, with a time of 42.98. Jordan Kells placed 10th in the 1000 meters (3:22.21), and Annecy Vlieks (5:26.18) placed third in the 1600. The 4x400 relay team, consisting of Michelle Jiang, Kells, Vivian Glaser, and Amanda Coric, took fourth place with a time of 4:16.71. Kells, Coric, Glaser, and Vlieks claimed second place in the 4x800 (10:20.14). Alexis Kuszpa took fifth in the pole fault (9-00.00).
For the boys, Nicholas Montana claimed seventh place in the 1000 meters (2:41.31). Harrison Grenier won the 3200 meters, finishing the race with a time of 9:38.29. The 4x400 relay team took seventh place, recording a time of 3:42.20. The runners were Christopher Bonavita, Liam Elliott, John Daniels, and Montana. Bonavita, Mason Stewart, Grenier, and Montana (8:24.91) grabbed third place in the 4x800. Matthew Kasper took eighth place in the long jump (19-02.50).
