H-K Boys’ Basketball Breaks Losing Skid, While Boys’ Ice Hockey Breaks Even
Boys’ Basketball
Cougars boys’ basketball snapped a losing streak, posting a home victory over conference opponents Valley Regional on Feb. 10. Andrew Crayton led all scorers with 22 points, Blake Kamoen chipped in 11 points, and Tate Callender added 10 points. Ryan Erskine and Joe Giaccone had five points each, and Declan Moriarty contributed four points, They are now 5-11 on the season.
Girls’ Basketball
Girls’ basketball stopped a two-game skid, posting a win on Feb. 11. The team started the week playing host to North Branford in a 62-56 defeat. They traveled to Deep River to play Valley Regional in a close 44-43 loss before returning home on Feb. 11 to face out-of-conference opponent Montville. The Cougars soundly defeated the visitors 71-38. Julia Favalora poured in 16 points in the victory, and Kaleigh Bodak added 14 points. Ava Ramino and Audra Yazmer each contributed 10 points. They are now 10-9 on the season.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Daniel Hand girls’ ice hockey co-op took a loss on the road last week, falling to the Hamden co-op 5-0 on Feb. 8. The team is 10-6 for the season.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
The Rocky Hill Co-op boys’ ice hockey team split the week, recording a loss on the road and a win at home. On Feb. 10, the team traveled to Enfield to take on Enfield-East Granby-Stafford in a 6-2 loss. They returned home on Feb. 11 to host Suffield/Granby/Windsor Locks, recording a 5-4 win. The team is now 4-12.
Indoor Track
The boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams competed at the Class S State Championship on Feb. 9, where the boys finished 14th overall as a team. On the girls’ side, Isabel Berardino took ninth place (12:25.45) in the 3200. For the boys, Alexander Lara grabbed third place in the 600 meter run (1:26.38). John Panzera (J5-08.00) finished in fifth place in the high jump.
