North Haven Boys’ Hockey Grabs a Win; Wrestling Hosts Final Home Match
Boys’ Basketball
Nighthawks boys’ basketball split the week, recording a road victory over Shelton and a loss at home to visiting Wilbur Cross. The team traveled to Shelton on Feb. 7 for the 58-42 non-conference victory and hosted Wilbur Cross on Feb. 10. Wilbur Cross defeated the Nighthawks 81-43. They are now 10-8 on the season.
Girls’ Basketball
Girls’ basketball grabbed a win on the road while suffering a home loss last week. The team hosted Hand for a conference matchup on Feb. 7, falling short to the visitors 68-60. Julia Ball led all scorers with 23 points. Olivia Ball added 12 points in the loss. They hit the road on Feb. 10 to square off against non-conference opponent Branford. Julia Ball led all scorers with 32 points in the 75-35 victory. Damaria Williams-Davis added 14 points, and Christa Colonis chipped in eight. The Nighthawks now own a 14-5 record.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Amity/Cheshire/North Haven girls’ ice hockey team continued its tough season, recording a tie and a loss in gameplay last week. They hosted Greenwich on Feb. 7 in a 3-3 tie before hosting the Guilford co-op on Feb. 11 in a 3-2 loss. The team is now 0-18-1.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
North Haven boys’ ice hockey got back into winning form, traveling to Groton to take on the Eastern CT Eagles on Feb. 8. The Nighthawks stopped their two-game skid with a convincing 7-3 victory. The team is now 13-2 for the season.
Wrestling
On Feb. 8, the North Haven wrestling team hosted Morgan in its last home match of the season. It was Senior Night, so Michael Bolduc, Rob Richitelli, and AJ Tomaszewski were recognized in a special ceremony. The Nighthawks won by a score of 60-24 and finished their inaugural season with a record of 9-11. Winning matches were Jace Iamunno at 145 lbs by pin, Michael Bolduc at 170 lbs by a pin, Justin Katz at 106 lbs by a pin, and Matt Kauhl at 152 lbs by a decision. Also winning for the Nighthawks by a forfeit were: Hayden Minns at 126 lbs, Logan Jeffery at 138 lbs, AJ Tomaszewski at 152 lbs, Luke Asbury at 160 lbs, Tyler DiMauro at 182 lbs, Owen Lin at 220 lbs, and Joe Carbone at 285 lbs. On Feb. 11, the team competed in the SCC Championships, finishing in a tie for 15th place overall. The day was highlighted by freshman Christian DeMaio making it to the semifinals at 195lbs. Christian made history by being the first semi-finalist in this new era for North Haven Wrestling. and was one match away from placing. Christian finished 2-2 on the day with two pins. Senior captain AJ Tomaszewski had a great day on the mats, finishing with a 2-2 record and missing the podium by one match. Tomaszewski gutted out a close 3-2 match in the preliminary round and won another close battle over a wrestler from Shelton in the consolations. Other wrestlers who advanced into the tournament were Justin Katz at 106 lbs, Owen Lin at 220 lbs, and Joe Carbone at 285 lbs.
