Guilford Boys’ Basketball Wins Three Straight; Girls’ Hockey Takes a Split
Boys’ Basketball
The Grizzlies posted a trio of wins last week, improving both their non-conference and conference records. The team hosted Foran on Jan. 23, defeating the visitors 54-37, and then traveled to Woodbridge, recording a 57-30 win over Amity Regional on Jan. 24. In their return home on Jan. 26, they narrowly defeated neighboring Daniel Hand, 45-42. In this contest, Justin Hess had 15 points, Luke Ste Marie had 14 points, and Riley Swan had 10, including the game-winning three pointer with under a minute to play. The Grizzlies are now 8-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. They hosted conference opponent Hillhouse on Jan. 31 (after press time) and will host Wolcott RVT on Thursday, Feb. 2, before heading to Hamden for a non-conference game on Friday, Feb. 3.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
Girl’s ice hockey split the week, taking a win on the road and a loss at home. In its game on Jan. 23 against Fairfield Ludlowe/Warde, the Guilford girls’ ice hockey co-op took a 4-2 win on the road. The team hosted the Hamden co-op on Jan. 26, falling in the 0-2 loss. Now 5-8 on the season, they take the ice again on Saturday, Feb. 4, at home against the Masuk Co-op.
Girls’ Basketball
It’s been a tough season for the girls’ basketball team, posting three more losses at home to non-conference opponents. The team holds a 2-11 overall record and is 0-2 in conference play. The Grizzlies hosted North Haven on Jan. 24, falling to the visitors 60-41. The team recorded losses on Jan. 27 to Hillhouse, 55-44, and on Jan. 28 to Ellington, 39-29. They looked to bounce back on Jan. 31 at Branford (after press time), and they will host Sheehan on Friday, Feb. 3.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
The Grizzlies recorded a home loss in its only game last week, falling 8-3 to visiting North Haven. The team holds a 5-2-1 record and is 4-1-1 in conference play. They hosted Hand on Feb. 1(after press time).
