A Strong Week for Hand Sports
Boys’ Basketball
Tigers boys’ basketball split the week, posting both a non-conference win and a loss against a conference opponent. The team traveled to Shelton on Jan. 24, snagging a convincing 86-60 win. On Jan. 26, they traveled to neighboring Guilford, taking a narrow 45-42 loss. The team stands at 8-5 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. They traveled to North Haven on Jan. 31 (after press time) and will travel to West Haven to face Notre Dame on Friday, Feb. 3.
Girls’ Basketball
The girls’ basketball team improved to 11-4 with two wins and a loss last week. The team traveled to Branford on Jan. 24 for the first of its three non-conference battles, posting a convincing 75-30 victory. On Jan. 26, the Tigers traveled to Middletown, where they were defeated 56-39 by Mercy. They rebounded on Jan. 28 with a resounding 50-20 victory over Hall. The team is 1-1 in conference play but continued its non-conference schedule on
Feb. 1 (after press time) with a game at Shelton, and they will travel to Hamden on Friday, Feb. 3.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
Tigers boys’ ice hockey split the week, posting a conference loss against Cheshire and a win against non-conference opponent Hamden. The team hosted Cheshire on
Feb. 2, taking a 7-5 loss in the effort. They hosted Hamden in a 6-3 victory on Jan. 28. The Tigers, 4-6-1 on the season and 0-3 in conference play, took to the road on Feb. 1 (after press time) to face Guilford. They will travel to Wallingford to take on Sheehan on Saturday, Feb. 4, and East Haven on Feb. 6.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Hand girls’ ice hockey co-op suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of the visiting Suffield co-op 5-4 on Jan. 28. The Tigers are now 8-4 on the season. They were set to travel to Ridgefield to take on Wilton/Norwalk/McMahon on Feb. 1 (after press time). The team will take on Woodstock Academy co-op on the road on Friday, Feb. 3, and will travel to Stamford to face Stamford/Westhill/Staples on Saturday, Feb. 4.
