North Haven Wrestling Takes Big Win
On Jan. 26, the North Haven wrestling team took to the road to take on Derby/Oxford/Holy Cross. The Nighthawks won the contest by a score of 40-33.
Sophomore Luke Asbury earned a major decision during his match at 152 pounds, winning 13-4, which was crucial in the team victory as it earned North Haven four team points. Junior captain Nate Ruggiero was able to secure a first-period pin in his match at 170 pounds, giving the Nighthawks six more points.
Sealing the deal was sophomore Tyler DiMauro at 182 pounds. Tyler took down his opponent quickly and then, during a scramble, was able to lock in a bear hug and took the Derby wrestler down to his back, earning a pin that put the Nighthawks ahead for good.
Also winning for the Nighthawks were Rob Richitelli at 132 pounds by forfeit, Emilio Crocco at 138 pounds by forfeit, Mike Bolduc at 160 pounds by forfeit, and Christian DiMaio at 182 pounds by forfeit.
Freshman Auriana Camano lost her match at 120 pounds by a score of 8-5 but wrestled very well in defeat and was able to keep putting pressure on her opponent.
North Haven is now 8-10 on the season and will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 1 (after press time), when they will travel to Hand. They will head to the Bacon Academy Matt Bishel Bobcat Classic on Saturday, Feb. 4.
