Grizzlies Top Blades in Dominant Fashion
The Guilford girls’ ice hockey co-op team is now 5-7 following a pair of wins and losses.
On Jan. 16, the Grizzlies faced the Amity/Cheshire/North Haven Blades at home and won by a score of 7-1.
In the first period, Emelia Brandi opened up the scoring for the Blades at the 6:08 mark, with Samantha Drane and Maybelle Caron credited with assists. However, the Grizzlies were quick to respond, as Hailey Farace (Guilford) took a pass from Cassie Ward (Guilford) into the net at the 2:53 mark.
Jordan King (East Haven) gave Guilford the lead at 1:40 of the first period, with assists credited to Isabella Jackowicz (East Haven) and Julia Crisci (East Haven).
Crisci padded the Grizzlies’ lead in the second period, with Jackowicz on the assist, at the 13:40 mark. Holding onto a 3-1 lead, Kimberly Evans (Guilford) found the net, off a pass from Crisci, at the 12:12 mark to make it a 4-1 lead.
As the Grizzlies were cruising, the girls carried that momentum into the third period. Jackowicz scored an unassisted goal at 11:51, and Cambelle Jacobson (Guilford) scored at the 2:29 mark, with Crisci and Jackowicz on the assists.
Finally, Jackowicz scored an unassisted goal at the 1:41 mark to put the icing on the cake and earn Guilford the win.
Kadence Epke (Guilford) recorded 12 saves in goal for the Grizzlies, and Olivia Hwang (Guilford) recorded four.
The Grizzlies traveled to the Northford Ice Pavilion on Jan. 19 to take on Daniel Hand, falling 2-1. On Jan. 21, the team headed to Simsbury, where they suffered a 2-0 loss. Redemption came on the road at the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport when the Grizzlies defeated Fairfield Ludlowe/Warde 4-2 on Jan. 23.
