East Haven Wrestling Shows Toughness vs. Windham, Nonnewaug
On Jan. 21, the East Haven wrestling team competed in a meet against both Windham and East Nonnewaug. The Yellowjackets took a 66-6 head-to-head-loss vs. Windham.
In the 106-pound bout, Windham’s Jonathan Hernandez defeated East Haven’s Sofia Milano by forfeit. In the 113-pound bout, Delmazio Despard took a 6-4 decision over Noah Franchi to give the Whippets another victory.
Gabriel Garcia won the 120-pound bout over East Haven’s Chris Doheny, and Oscar Mendoza-Soto defeated Yellowjackets’ Tin Trinh, by a 16-14 decision, in the 126-pound contest.
Other victories for Windham included EJ Jenkins in the 138-pound bout (4:49 over Dylan Snyder), Aaron Palacios-Mendoza in the 170-pound bout (4:14 over Marc Gargano), and Asael Garcia-Rodriguez in the 182-pound bout (forfeit over Zander Molster).
Windham also took victories in the 195-pound (Malachi Fowler in a 5-2 decision over East Haven’s Jason Toth) and the 220-pound bout (Yael Garcia-Rodriguez by forfeit over Joshua Rivera).
Alex Dombrowski pulled off a win for East Haven in the 152-pound bout with a victory at the 2:58 mark over Windham’s Ariel Cortez-Roque.
In the contest vs. Nonnewaug, East Haven won by a head-to-head score of 48-33.
Marchello Torres gained a victory for the Yellowjackets in the 106-pound bout, defeating Grant Wilmot at the 1:41 mark. Jack Batista-Fletcher (East Haven) won the 113-pound bout by forfeit over Alex Krajeski.
East Haven’s Chris Doheny collected a win in the 120-pound bout, in a victory by forfeit over Aiden Cooper, while Joey Bernardi of Nonnewaug defeated Tin Trinh by an 11-5 decision in the 126-pound contest.
East Haven’s Maddie Cooper fell to Sean Crawford in the 132-pound bout at the 4:42 mark, but Dylan Snyder picked up a win over Kayden Guillet in the 138-pound bout (2:32).
Alex Dombrowsi helped lead East Haven to the win with a 260-pound victory over Jackson Krajeski (3:23).
Nonnewaug took victories in both the 170 and 182-pound bouts, as James Mahon won at 170 pounds by forfeit over Marc Gargano, and Jack Wendel beat East Haven’s Zander Molster by forfeit at 182 pounds.
