North Haven Boys’ Hockey Cruises to 10-0
The North Haven boys’ hockey team continued its undefeated season after defeating division rivals North Branford on Jan. 18 and posting a win over Cheshire on Jan. 21
The Nighthawks took on their SCC Division II rink rivals, the T-Birds of North Branford, on Jan. 18, dominating the contest and coasting to a 6-1 victory.
At 1:55 of the first period, North Haven jumped out to a 1-0 lead, as Bryce Mastriano found the net, with Nolan Cole and Jake Donovan on the assists. Will Sullivan quickly made it 2-0 Nighthawks at 8:16 of the period, with assists going to Tommy Guidone and Joey Taft.
North Haven closed out the period with Will Sullivan scoring his second goal of the game, assisted by Nolan Cole and Alex Petersen, at 14:47.
The second period was primarily a defensive showing, as only one total goal was scored. Jake Donovan scored that lone goal, at the 5:45 mark, with Nolan Cole on the assist. The Nighthawks went into the locker room with a 4-0 lead.
North Branford scored a goal at 2:16 of the third period to cut the lead to 4-1, but Tommy Guidone answered to make it 5-1, with assists being credited to Alex Petersen and Joey Taft at 6:29.
Jake Donovan added a bonus score for the Nighthawks as he slid the puck into the net at the 10:05 mark, with Alex Petersen and Bryce Montabana assisting. Bryce Petersen picked up his ninth victory of the season in net for North Haven in the 6-1 win, as the Nighthawks improved their record to 9-0 on the season.
The Nighthawks also hosted the Cheshire Rams in an SCC Division II matchup on Jan. 21.
North Haven took an early 1-0 lead at 13:04 of the first period, as Owen Quick knocked one into the net, with Tommy Guidone picking up the assist.
At 14:32 of the first, Alex Petersen scored an unassisted goal to give North Haven a 2-0 lead, which they were able to hold until the end of the period.
In the second period, Owen Quick picked up his second goal of the game at the 4:10 mark, with freshman Mark Guidone being credited with the assist to make it 3-0 North Haven.
The Nighthawks continued to show their dominance throughout the contest, as Will Sullivan made it 4-0 at 6:15. Tommy Guidone and Owen Quick assisted on the score.
Owen Quick, who had a very productive day on the ice, completed a hat trick at 13:20 of the second period. He scored his third goal of the game, with Joey Taft on the assist, to make it 5-0 Nighthawks.
Cheshire fought back in the third period, scoring three straight goals to cut the lead to 5-3, but Tommy Guidone quickly answered with his second score of the evening at 8:52, with Will Sullivan on the assist, to make it 6-3 North Haven.
At the 14:36 mark of the third, Cheshire scored another goal, ultimately making the final score 6-4 with a North Haven victory.
Junior Jack Keaney picked up his first win of the season in net for the Nighthawks as they improved to 10-0 on the season.
North Haven faced Guilford on Jan. 25 (after press time) and will host West Haven on Jan. 28.
