01/22/2023 01:12 PMOn Jan. 21, the Branford girls’ indoor track and field team competed at the SCC Coaches Invitational at the Floyd Little Athletic Center. Several girls had breakout performances for the Hornets on the track.
In the long jump, Ella Stone placed fourth (16’). Joelle Budz finished in ninth place in the 55 meters, with a time of 7.70.
Glorianna Buckley (7.92) and Chayse Gueco (8.07) finished closely behind Budz in the event.
Budz and Buckley also had strong performances in the 300, finishing with times of 45.62 and 45.90, respectively. Hannah Jackson recorded a time of 6:17.37 in the 1600 meter race and 11.61 in the 55 meter hurdles.
Cecile Hazen’s 11.99 result in the 55 hurdles was also a good performance.
Other notable performances included Taylor Tracy in the shot put (22’ 9”) and Stone in the high jump (4’ 4”).
Coach Kevin Connell was very proud of the girls and the improvement they continue to show each meet.
“Glorianna Buckley had a breakthrough meet, with state-qualifying performances in both the 55 and 300,” Connell said. “She has had a great indoor season. Joelle and Ella continue to perform well and establish themselves near the top in the SCC.”
