On Jan. 11, the East Haven boys’ ice hockey co-op team played a close game at home vs. the West Haven Co-op, falling by a score of 3-2.

Michael Savo opened up the scoring in the game, with a goal assisted by John D’Albero at the 9:29 mark of the first period, to give East Haven an early 1-0 lead. West Haven responded, however, as Micahel Madera scored at the 10:45 mark, with Jayden Spreyer on the assist. It was an even contest heading into the locker room.

The Yellowjackets failed to score in the second period, but Marcus Burrows broke the tie with a goal assisted by Brady Price at the 10:13 mark, to give West Haven a 2-1 lead.

Shortly into the third period, West Haven padded their lead, when Marcus Burrows and Brady Price linked up for the second time, for a 3-1 lead. East Haven kept fighting, however, as Michael Savo recorded his second score of the game at the 8:25 mark, with assists going to Tyler Weinzimmer and John D’Albero. This pulled East Haven within one, but ultimately it wasn’t enough, as the Blue Devils held them from scoring for the remainder of the game.

Jon-Paul Garea manned the net for East Haven, allowing three goals while recording 20 saves.

Hoping to bounce back from the loss, the Yellowjackets then faced the Eastern CT Eagles at home on Jan. 14. East Haven walked away with a 4-1 win.

John D’Albero got the Yellowjackets on the board early, with a short-handed goal at the 5:55 mark of the first period, assisted by Griffin McGlinchey.

The Eastern Eagles responded at the 11:13 mark, with a short-handed goal of their own. This was scored by Jack Kramer, assisted by Nick Rebish.

East Haven capitalized on a Power Play, with Griffin McGlinchey finding the net at the 13:39 mark, assisted by Tyler Weinzimmer. The Yellowjackets closed out the period with a 2-1 lead.

Michael Savo was quick to pad the lead as the second period began, with an unassisted score at the 0.16 mark. Defense took over for the remainder of the period, as both teams failed to score.

At the 3:37 mark of the third period, the Yellowjackets had another Power Play. This time, John D’Albero scored his second goal of the game, this time unassisted.

Jon-Paul Garea allowed only one goal on 38 saves in the contest, helping to lead the Yellowjackets to a 4-1 victory.
