01/15/2023 10:22 AMThe Branford girls’ indoor track and field team competed at the James Barber Invitational meet at SCSU on Jan. 11. Although there were quite a few schools participating in the competition, the Hornets saw a number of top finishes over the course of the day.
Joelle Budz came in third in the 55 Meter run, recording a personal best time of 7.69. Teammate Chayse Gueco finished shortly after, coming in at 8.06. Finally in this event, Djamilla Tokour came in at a time of 8.39.
Joelle Budz also showed her talent in the 300, in which she placed second with a time of 45.02. Glorianna Buckley finished in 12th in that event (47.35), and Djamilla Tokour’s time was 47.76, enough for 17th place. Another standout was Hannah Jackson in the 1600 Meters, recording a fast time of 6:21.67.
Three girls had memorable performances in the 55 Meter Hurdles for the Hornets. Glorianna Buckley finished in 11.05, Cecile Hazen was shortly behind at 11.64, and Hannah Jackson came in at 11.80.
Ella Stone placed first in the long jump, with a score of 16'.
Coach Kevin Connell was very proud of the girls and the accomplishments they achieved in this race.
“Ella Stone really came into her own, she was the top seed and performed like it, ” Connell said. “She is a tribute to the quiet work needed to be a great athlete. Joelle Budz also came in as one of the top sprinters and ran personal best in the 55 and ran a very competitive 300.”
“Every meet this season, the girls have proven themselves, and have competed at a high level,” Connell added. “I am proud of the work they have done so far and look forward to see better efforts in the future.”
