01/13/2023 10:42 AMOn Jan. 11, the Branford boys’ indoor track and field team competed in the Jim Barber Invitational at SCSU. The Hornets had a variety of standout performances, as they look towards the second half of the season.
Colin Donahoe had an outstanding performance in the 1000 Meters, recording a first place time of 2:43.29. Ryder Kropiwnicki’s 12'6 Pole Vault score earned him second place, and Kropiwnicki also placed fifth in the 55 Meter Hurdles, with a finishing time of 8.68.
Massimo Corrick had a notable performance as well, in the 1600 Meter run. He recorded a time of 4:59.14 for his personal best time. Sam Coppola and Noah Hauswirtz also competed in the 1600, with Sam earning a time of 5:02.37 (PR) and Noah earning a time of 5:14.47. Finally, Zach Berner recorded his personal record in the 55 Meters, with a finishing time of 7.30.
Coach Rich Biondi was encouraged by his team’s performance and credited them for all of their hard work so far this season.
“Currently, the program is mid season and the athletes’ performances are reflective of their hard work,” Biondi said. “Colin Donahoe and Ryder Kropiwnicki continue to elevate their performances and they are primed for the championship meets. Massimo Corrick and Sam Coppola established seasonal bests in their perspective races, and they are peaking at the right time. Zach Berner, only a sophomore, established a personal record in the dash and has a bright future in the sport.”
