H-K Boys’ Basketball Fights Hard Despite Two Losses


On Jan. 3, the Haddam-Killingworth boys’ basketball team traveled to Valley Regional, where they picked up a road loss, 49-42. Leading the scoring for H-K was Ryan Erskine with 11. Jay Evans added nine points and three rebounds, and Blake Kamoen had seven points, nine rebounds and one steal.

Declan Moriarty added five points and a rebound of his own, while Andrew Crayton had five points, six rebounds, two steals, an assist, and a block. Cody Robinson scored three points and collected a rebound, and Joe Giaccone added two points and a rebound.

The Cougars then traveled to Cromwell on Jan. 6., taking a 74-40 loss. Despite the result, there were still positive highlights for H-K, like Andrew Crayton scoring 14 points to go along with three rebounds, one assist and one block. Blake Kamoen also contributed with ten points and three rebounds, and Ryan Erskine added five points, two rebounds and one assist.

Jay Evans (four points and one rebound), Declan Moriarty (three points), Cody Robinson (two points), and Tyler Perry (two points and six rebounds) all provided offense for the Cougars in the loss.

H-K stayed on the road and traveled to Old Lyme on Jan. 9. This was a very competitive, back-and-forth game. The Cougars won by a one-point score of 54-53.

Ryan Erskine led the scoring for the Cougars, with 14 points and one rebound. He was followed by Andrew Crayton, who decorated the scoreboard with 13 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Declan Moriarty had 12 points and two steals, and Blake Kamoen had nine points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Finally, Tyler Perry contributed with six points and five rebounds.

This game went down to the wire, but it was Blake Kamoen hitting a clutch three-pointer as time expired in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Cougars.
